Practice Model and Pharmacy Staffing
Carolyn Seehafer, PharmD - Pharmacy Director, Trinity Health Minot
Lisa Nagel, PharmD - Pharmacy Supervisor, Sanford Medical Center Fargo
What type of practice model do you have? Decentral, central, separate clinical staff and dispensing staff, integrated staff, etc? What specialties do you have at your site? How do you schedule your pharmacists and technicians? What type of rotation do they follow? Weekends? PMs? How are they assigned to their clinical areas? Who schedules your staff? Ambulatory pharmacists – integrated with your hospital staff? How do you address seniority? What type of turn-over are you seeing? How do you cover maternity leaves? In the age of more women in pharmacy, are you “staffed up” to accomodate this? With additional training, (PGY1, PGY2, etc) how do you balance staff or grandfather them in without this extra training, but doing same/similar work? Are your pharmacists credentialed and privileged? What do your job descriptions look like for your staff? Are they specific to their specialty? Seniority?
