Medical Marijuana

I am working on a policy for medical marijuana for our hospital.  The main portion of the policy is a statement indicating that that medical marijuana is not to be used on our campus.

What I'm having trouble with is what should our policy be regarding any medical marijuana brought into the facility. Some of the issues are:

    1.  If a patient is being admitted, who do you release the medical marijuana to?  Only a someone registered with the state as a caregiver is allowing to transfer the substance.  What if such a person is not available?

    2.  Our DEA license only allows us to deal in Schedule II - V substances.  DEA still considered marijuana Schedule I.

    3.  Medical marijuana is required to be labeled if dispensed from a 'compassion center', but patients are allowed to grow their own if they live more than 40 miles for one of these centers.  ND if very rural and most patients will likely be for than 40miles from a center.  What do we do with unlabeled marijuana?  Anything different than the labeled substance?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
